Grade exams

Grading:

Grades are a wonderful incentive for any drummer from the beginner to the more advanced.  Major examination grades also have the benefit of counting towards educational qualifications from GCSE through to A Level.  Grades above level five also count towards University UCAS points. The exams are nationally recognised.

Exam Boards:

The two major exam boards we use are:

Rockschool - www.rockschool.co.uk

Trinity Guildhall - www.trinitycollege.co.uk

What happens during the exam?

During grading exams, pupils are required to play along to CD’s that have been supplied and written by the appropriate exam board whilst following the correct drum chart. Pupils will also have to play through technical exercises, sight read, improvise, read music and answer musical knowledge questions.  The exam will be around 25 minutes long.  This is a rough overview of what the exam involves.  When you take exams with us, we will take you through it in detail so that you can rest assured.

Where do the exams take place?

Rockschool exams take place in Newport.  Trinity Guildhall exams usually take place in Llanishen.  Everything is provided for you there, just bring your book and cd with your drum sticks.

Do I book the exams?

No (unless you want to).  We will sort out everything for you.  All you need to do is prepare for the exam and turn up to the exam centre.
